On The Twelfth Day Of Craft-Mas

On the twelfth day of Craft-Mas the crafting gods gave to me, the craft of joy oh so humbly.

I have to be totally honest here, this project was kind of a trial run for our wedding, for table decorations at the reception to be exact.  I’ve been hoarding some serious glass containers lately.  From pickle jars, wine bottles, and even glass Starbucks frappacino bottles.  The goal of this project was to give painting glass containers a go and also make it into some festive Christmas decor.  To complete this project, here are your supplies:

This includes three empty glass jars (I chose the Starbucks Frappacino ones since they look so much like milk bottles), some primer, glittery paper, letter stencils and a glue gun.  The first step was to peel the labels from the bottles and scrub off all that sticky, residue crud.

Then pour some primer into the bottle:

I chose primer instead of paint for two reasons, well, maybe three reasons.  One, it’s stickier than paint.  Two, it dries faster than paint.  And three, we have a crap load of it.  Truth.  Then I swirled the paint around and around and around some more, making sure that all of the glass was covered.

Then I dumped out the excess paint and continued turning the bottle around and around and around and around.  That step took awhile but it’s important to get as much paint out of the bottle so the coating that’s left dries quickly.  Then I was left with these three bottles.

Which looked JUST like milk bottles.  Then I traced, cut out, and hot glued the glittery letters to the milk bottles and tah-dah:

Pretty, joyful milk bottles.  And since the kitchen was in desperate need of some Christmas flair, I plopped them down on the kitchen window sill alongside the African violets, found vintage bottles, and Pottery Barn diffuser.

Notice how I strategically took my photos to leave out the massive amount of dishes in the sink.  Oh sneaky sneaky!  How’s that dishwasher installation coming, Santa?!  I love how the bottles fit seamlessly next to the all-white kitchen trim.  And with a little sparkle thrown in there.

Pssst…So this concludes the 12 Days Of Craft-Mas series.  I’ll be back later this week with a recap of all 12 projects as well as a holiday home tour.  Then it’s back to business as usual right here at Angie’s Roost.  It will be back to the good ol’ house projects!  I hate to admit it but I’m kind of missing priming, painting and maybe even drywall sanding…that’s a big maybe!
