Dishwasher In The Housz

This just in….”Santa” finally installed the dishwasher!  Yay!  I’ve only gone 610 days, 13 hours, and 16 minutes (oh yeah…I’ve been keeping track) without one and boy have I missed it!  So I’ve been begging Santa this Christmas season to install the dishwasher (and for those of you who haven’t figured it out, Santa is Colby here in this little story) and I think he finally got the hint.  We bought this guy, the Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher, back a few months ago on super sale:

Excuse Goose.  He’s busy licking the dishwasher because that’s what Gooses do.  Ever since this guy got delivered, he’s lived in the parlor, right beside the Christmas tree actually.  I even dressed him up a little bit with a bow so he wouldn’t feel so out of place around all the festive decorations.  Just after the Christmas decor came down, Colby began ripping and tearing into the temporary shelves in the kitchen that he installed (over a year ago), where the old, olive colored dishwasher (that never worked) was.

We made a total mess of the house this weekend by the way (I’ll fill you in on  our other weekend project that made an even BIGGER mess tomorrow).  The shelving space where the dishwasher went was one of the most used storage spaces in our lacking proper storage kitchen.  Thus, most of the stuff lived on the counters for the weekend.  Colby later set up some temporary shelves on the other side of the kitchen to contain the mess until we can attack the kitchen storage situation.  Here’s a shot of the kitchen mess:

But it was all worth it…hello lover!

Totally worth the mess.  So I’m sure some of you are wondering about why we chose a stainless steel dishwasher instead of a white one to match the other appliances.  In a few years we’re planning on tackling a complete kitchen renovation, which includes upgrading the appliances with stainless steel.  I didn’t think it would make much sense to purchase a white dishwasher just to turn around and replace it with a stainless steel one.  Also, to break up the pain of purchasing all the appliances at once, I intend to purchase them one at a time and shop great deals.  I’m thinking a refrigerator is next on the list (I ALMOST came home with one of the day thanks to it being 50% off for being scratched).  Anyway, I adore the dishwasher.  In fact, we’ve done the dishes three times in the past two days.

And it runs like a dream…a very quiet dream too FYI for anyone who may be considering this model.  Thanks to “Santa” who is a whiz at dishwasher installation.  In all honesty, installing it was a cinch thanks to some excellent step by step instructions and some help with materials from the Lowes plumbing expert.

Pssst…Did anyone notice the latest update to the blog?  Check out the side bar’s 2012 To-Do list.  Cute huh?  And when I finish a project and check it off, the item will link to the appropriate post.  See?!  I’m already starting to tackle resolution #4 from yesterday’s post.
