Fourth And A Flag

Holy crazy town Batman!  We were BUSY this weekend and I have so much to update you on.  Between a Pinterest Challenge project and getting oh so close to moving back into our master bedroom there have been some exciting changes going on that I need to update you all on.  But first things first, we must pay homage to our Fourth of July project…a flag project, thanks to an American Flag kit that we picked up at our local Aubuchon Hardware for about $15.

This is Colby’s un-amused face when I asked him if we could patriotically, and literally, march the flag out to the front of the house military style.

“Assembling” the flag kit was super easy.  It required piecing two poles together, attaching the flag, and then adding the bald eagle top to it.  Oh yeah, and then there’s the part where we attached it to the house.  Of course I weighed my flag location options, and kindly asked Colby to “try on” the flag in two different spots on the house while I snapped pictures….option number 1.

And option number 2:

But option number one was the clear winner.  It seemed more traditional to have an American flag flying on the front porch right beside the mailbox.  And it would be easier to untangle and bring inside come winter time.  No fighting the overgrown, need to trim it up bush would be necessary.

With the location decided upon, Colby modeled…I mean…used his Milwaukee drill to screw in the flag hanging bracket that came with the kit.

And then easily slid the flag pole into the bracket.

Man…there’s something so American and classy about having a white house with an American flag proudly hanging out front.  And please excuse the ginormous mess on the front porch.  Our yard sale pile keeps growing and growing.

Not only did we get our patriotism on this Fourth of July by adding a flag to our front porch, but also celebrated with a bbq and a walk down to the river to watch the local fireworks display.  We thought they were great but poor Goose (who we left at home) did not appreciate.  He’s not so into this fireworks legal in Maine situation and has been cowering under the desk or behind the couch for the past week straight thanks to non-stop fireworks.  Hopefully the nightly fireworks shows simmer down soon so we can get back to our nightly Goose runs.

But in all seriousness, a HUGE shout out to all our veterans and service men and women out there protecting our great country.  I salute you!

Pssst…Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for my Pinterest Challenge reveal project.  It’s epicly awesome!  Here’s a hint as to what it is…let’s just say I had a bit of a Carrie situation and was up to my eyes in red paint this afternoon.  Read more about the Pinterest Challenge Summer 2012 edition back here.  ‘Til tomorrow!
