I Love Lamp

Let’s just file this post under random purchases for $100 Alex.  Oh…but they changed Jeopardy and there is no longer a $100 category…I rephrase…let’s file this post under random purchases for $200 Alex.  Not that I spent $200…more like $66.48.  Anyway, after returning home from our Puerto Rico adventure, we’re talking immediately after returning home from Puerto Rico, I settled into the couch for a long winter’s nap catching up with my shelter magazines that came while we were away.  I flipped open the cover of Country Living and was bestowed with a vision of the most beautiful thing in the world…a Threshold Target lamp.

I love lamp!  Have I used that post title before?  I’m pretty sure I have…anyway.  I couldn’t stand the “should I” or “shouldn’t I” purchase the lamps to replace our too small, temporary $10 lamps in our master bedroom.  It was a regular old pink mirror from Home Goods scenario all over again.  The lamp was all I could think of.  So on my weekend errands I just so happened to traipse into Target to find the lamps on sale.  They regularly cost $39.99 but the price was dropped down to $34.99….score!  Of course a pair of them just so happened to jump into my cart.  Funny how that happens.  And we all came home as one big lamp happy family.

Threshold Lamp From Target

So here is one of the two, too small temporary lamps in our master bedroom.

Red Night Stand With Old Lamp

When we first moved into our home three years ago, we didn’t have any lamps for our room so I picked these up on clearance at Target for dirt chip.  It cost me $20 at the time for the two lamps AND the shades.  But they’ve worn out their welcome and it was time to upgrade to something beefier.  I had been passively looking for new lamps for the past few months but was just waiting for the right lamps to cross my path.  Like these guys:

Glass And Wire Threshold Lamps From Target

I love the glass and how it seems like it’s bulging out of the wire grid.  It reminds me of those West Elm terrariums.  Speaking of bulging (inappropriate joke coming…ear muffs), Colby refers to these as the muffin top lamps.  I promised I wouldn’t share that.  Ooops….bad wife…I love you baby!  On a more serious note, I’m digging how the lamps tie into the black hardware on the red nightstand.  And their scale is so much more perfect for our bedroom than the dinky lamps they replaced.

New Threshold Lamps In Master Bedroom

The only part of the lamps I’m not a fan of is the shade.  I cruised the lamp shades while I was at Target but not a single one spoke to me.  Not a word…the shades were all completely mum.  So I settled for a pair of plain white ones for now but knowing perfectly well that I’ll probably craft something up to give them a little bit more pizazz. They’re blank canvases just ready for some jazzing up.  Lately, I’ve been cruising Pinterest and Anthropologie to scrounge up some inspiration and here’s what I’m thinking:

I love all three of those Anthro shades!  But at $90 each I’m not about to purchase a pair of those.  I’m too cheap for that!  But I’m thinking of trying to DIY one of these beauties.  I’m leaning towards the yellow, flowered one but maybe in a different color?!  I don’t know.  Do you think I can get away with bringing in yellow shades in our bedroom?  They would tie into the yellow in the “8-10-12” wedding table number art hanging on the wall.  We’ll see what I decide.  I may just cover the shades in some fun fabric instead, kind of like the Anthro shade on the right.  But whatever we decide to do, you know we’ll keep you posted.

Pssst…Any illuminating projects going down at su casa?  Or jonesing after something from Anthro?  Oh how I love Anthro!

  1. I love the new purchases. You deserve a little lamp love after your tragic lamp loss a few weeks ago. These are fantastic. I certainly think you can DIY an Anthro design. I think a bold yellow, like mustard, would look awesome!

    1. I can’t believe you remembered the Pottery Barn lamp tragedy! You’re the best! And Anthro challenge accepted. I’ve been leaning towards the yellow, floral-ie one but was a little uncertain it would look okay. I’m totally going for it!

  2. Visiting from Decor and the Dog 🙂 Um, I totally love lamp, too (and that is a title worth repeating, if it has been used before). That is WAY cool and fun, and I don’t think you’d have any trouble DIYing a copycat Anthro shade! The yellow flowered one is my favorite, too (maybe because it looks the simplest to copy and I’m a bit lazy). Can’t wait to see how it comes out!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Rachel! I loved Michelle’s little link party! Ha! And I’m totally lazy too when it comes to DIY…yellow floral lamp shade it is!

  3. Found your blog through the link up today- wow, Anthropologie really DOES have some beautiful stuff, but I agree- I just can`t justify spending that much on it. It can be SO temping though. I`d be really interested to see if you manage to DIY!

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! I loved that little link party Michelle put together! And I’ve been on the fence about trying to DIY the yellow Anthro shade, but thanks to all you lovely ladies, I’m feeling the confidence…totally trying to tackle it this weekend!

  4. Those lamps are a perfect addition to your room! I prefer more neutral lamp shades so personally I like the middle choice. I could easily see these covered in a grass cloth type fabric or a neutral ikat, too.

Are those Euro pillows down? I’m looking for some Euro pillows but can’t seem to find them (I usually only shop at discount stores so that could be part of the problem).

    1. Oooooh…ikat…I hadn’t thought of that. That might be really cool…thanks for the tip! I’ll have to see what our local fabric store has.

As for the pillows…they’re a feather-down blend insert that I got from Pottery Barn about 8 years ago. But they still have them…you can find them here. I think they’re the 24″ ones for $26 each. Not exactly cheap but so worth it! They’re perpetually fluffy and I love them!

  5. I love the anthro shade on the right…and the lamps are awesome! Things seem to jump into my cart at Target too, and we get home and I’m just ‘not sure’ how it came home with me. 🙂 Same thing at HomeGoods!

    1. Sweet! I’m glad to know that I’m in good, things-jump-into-my-cart-at-Target company! Haha! Oh…and I’m totally with you about HomeGoods too! I JUST went there this weekend to get a new bathmat and somehow ended up with a bathmat, three new baskets, and a set of mermaid canisters! We need a twelve step program!

  6. Hey! I just came across your blog and you have a beautiful style. I couldnt help but mention that Target does sell the lamp shade shown in the advertisement. Its part of the Modern cottege set by Threshold. It is sold in stores including online. I provided a link to the shade plus it shows a photo of how it was styled in a room. I work at target btw in the decor department so I love helping out. 🙂
