That Time Curtis Stone Had His Mitts On One Of Our iPad Stands & A Smorgasbord Of Other Awesome Things

And the award for the longest blog post title in the history of…ever….goes to…drum roll please…Angie Campbell!  And I didn’t even prepare a speech!  Lucky you for not having to listen to it.  2013 has been good to us and in particular good to our shop, Roostic (find us on Etsy here).  I have to admit, in the thick of holiday shopping season working 16 hour days making stands, it didn’t feel so glamorous, but looking back…dang girl?!  We had some pretty cool things happen to us and our shop.  Enter exhibit A… Curtis Stone, Australian “Take Home Chef” from the Food Network.  And yes, that’s my red stained iPad stand crafted by my own two hands sitting on the counter beside him.  Coolest thing that has ever happened to me.  Other than meeting Colby of course (can you hear the cheese police sirens?  They’re coming for me).  The stands were for an event that Netflix was hosting.  Top Chef Masters host Curtis Stone was cooking up some Thanksgiving goodies for a room full of class participants and they used my stands to hold tablets at each station for recipe reading.  You can read more about the event on Parade here and OK Magazine here.

Honestly, that red stand order was the order from…well…you know.  Let’s just say, that everything that could go wrong did go wrong (aka…thank you UPS for damaging almost my entire custom, rush, overnight, bulk order that I spent four straight days working 20 hour days recreating and I’m still waiting for that larger-than-my-mortgage shipping refund two months later).  But totally worth it just for the coolness factor!  I love Curtis Stone.  Curtis…if you’re reading this…and find yourself in Maine someday…you can totally come home and cook dinner for me anytime!

Onto exhibit B…our classic stained iPad stand featured on Domaine Home:

For those unfamiliar, Domaine Home is a shoppable online magazine which features super stylish home decor.  I had never heard of them before I learned of our feature and now I feel like an idiot.  How am I a self professed lover of home decor and interior design and not heard of Domaine Home?!  For crying out loud….they just redid LC’s office (aka Lauren Conrad…aka…former Laguna Beach star…aka…former The Hills star).  Doh.  But they did feature our iPad stand in one of their posts about iPads as the new cookbook which you can read about here.

And now for exhibit C…our classic stained iPad mini stand featured on the Etsy blog as one of the top 25 tech gifts on Etsy:

Let’s just say…I felt like I finally arrived in the Etsy world after being featured in one of their blog posts!  AND I sold out of every…single…stand within an hour of the post going live.  It was nuts…extra nuts.  But I was absolutely elated to be featured in their post and reading through all the gushing comments.  This one was my favorite:

Exhibit D…our classic stained iPad stand featured in the 2013 Centsational Girl Gift Guide:

Kate from the Centsational Girl blog is absolutely fabulous!  Her blog was one of the first blogs I got hooked on and I still read it daily.  She has fabulous style that I covet, has been featured in many national glossy magazines including my favorite, Better Homes and Gardens, and is even a Style Spotter for the online arm of the magazine.  So when I saw our stand in her holiday gift guide, I died.  Not literally…otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this post right now.  Just figuratively speaking.

And onto exhibit E…our classic stained combo cookbook and iPad stand featured on the W Network’s shop the show for a Candice Olson episode:

Candice Olson (yes…THE Candice Olson) selected our combo cookbook/iPad stand to use in the French Country Kitchen she was designing for a homeowner.  I’m not 100% positive that it is in fact my stand in the show (it’s so tiny in the pic I can’t tell), but the Network did order a bunch of these stands from me!  So if anyone catches the show (it airs late tonight/early tomorrow morning but I think just in Canada), let me know!  Otherwise I’ll be mad Googling around for it tomorrow!

And last but certainly not least, exhibit F…our shop featured in an Entrepreneur magazine article on shipping:

When I left my day job as a marketing director for an industrial distributor, the last thing our company president and VP told me was, “we expect to see you in Forbes magazine one day”.  Well guys, does Entrepreneur count?!  At the height of the Christmas shopping rush, I was contacted by Samantha Drake, a writer for Entrepreneur magazine who was doing an article about Etsy and shipping.  The biggest point I tried to make in our interview was that shipping for me and our shop needs to be efficient.  With our shop, my limited resource is time.  So if I spend a ton of time packing orders inefficiently, that’s less time I can spend making and selling products meaning less money in my pocket at the end of the day.  That part got left out of the article but it’s still something I feel strongly about for all Etsy sellers…create an easy, efficient system.  Be like Nike and Just Do It.  Angie says.

So that concludes our little foray into the coolest things that have happened to our shop in the last couple of months.  All the fabulous features really make those unglamorous days when you drop and spill an entire quart of red stain on your floor a bit more bearable.  Here’s hoping 2014 is just as amazing!  Happy New Year to all of you and thanks for sticking around this little nook of the blogosphere!  Virtual hugs to you all!

Pssst…Speaking of New Years, how did you guys ring in the new year?  Any fabulous outings?  Or a relaxing evening at home?  Anyone else reflecting back on 2013?
