Dark Walnut Stained Trim

Comments

  1. was wondering what you used to fill the nail holes and what kind of finish you applied to this trim ?? My husband and I just recently trimmed out a bedroom with walnut and are uncertain as to what finish to apply to achieve the shine but still keep the beauty of the walnut.

    1. Hey Kasey…thanks for stopping by! We used a tinted wood putty that we picked up at Lowes (it’s in the same aisle and right with all the regular old wood putty). There’s actually a dark walnut one that is an EXACT match for our dark walnut stain. We just rubbed in a little dab of the putty into the nail holes and blended it with into the stain surrounding it. You can’t even tell where the nails were anymore because it matched so well! As for the finish, after staining and filling nails, we used an oil-based, glossy poly on all our trim. We bounce around from brand to brand, but our favorite has been the Minwax oil based poly in a semi-gloss finish. Hope this helps! And just in case you don’t see it here, I’ll shoot this info over to you in an email!
