On the ninth day of Craft-mas the crafting gods gave to me, a snowflake mobile so sparkly!
The best part of this project, it was essentially free! Everything I used to make this mobile was from things I already had around the house or had used for another project. The snowflakes were old ornaments that no longer fit on the tree, the red beads were the mistake beads beads from the card wreath project from back here, the wood and paint we already had for house projects, and the string was some of Colby’s fishing line. Gotta love a free project! Especially a cute, sparkly one! And the project was easy. Here’s how it all went down. First, I had Colby build me a cross for the basis of the mobile.
Colby even drilled a hole on each end, as well as one in the middle, for the fishing line to pass through and tie to a red bead, anchoring the line. I gave the frame a quick whitewash with some primer so the fresh pine look went away. Then I cut five pieces of fishing line, poked each through and tied a bead to the end to secure the line to the frame.
Then out came my favorite tool in the tool box, the hot glue gun, to glue each of the sparkly, snowflake ornaments to the fishing line.
I used a highly technical method to determine the optimal location for each ornament. I held up the mobile, picked a spot on each of the lines that looked empty, then glued the ornament to that spot. I was trying to space them out so no two snowflakes were found on the same horizontal axis. Oh…and have I mentioned that the mobile lives in the parlor with the other, newly created here and here, sparkly Christmas art?
I adore how everything is so glittery! Simply fabulous! Warning…side note coming…I got the premier copy of the “Bohovich Family Christmas Letter” that my dad crafts every year…he used the word fabulous…I think he’s been reading too much of my blog! Now if he starts using the word prettification I’ll start getting worried.
I also love how the mobile fills a void in the space between the parlor and the dining room. It balances out the art and the flowers on the other side of the console and gives some height to the space above the thermostat.
Pssst…Here’s to one last weekend before Christmas! What’s on everyone’s to do list this weekend? I’ll be in the kitchen baking away…errrr…more like dipping away…dipping peppermints in chocolate. I make these ridiculously awesome peppermint patties during the Christmas season, it’s kind of a family tradition that’s been passed down to me. Yum!
