We’ve Been Purged Upon

I adore surprises.  I should clarify, good surprises.  So last week, after I returned home after a long and grueling day, I really needed a pick me up.  And much to my surprise, said pick me up arrived via a care package from Vermont.  One of our friends, Marcus, sent us a box full of all sorts of stuff!  Such a happy surprise!

It even came with a little note from Marcus.  He mentioned how he had been avidly reading the blog (yay!) and was cleaning out his home and sent us a few things he thought we might like!  Awwww!  And forewarning, there is going to be lots of exclamation marks in this post!  Lots and lots and lots and lots!  That’s what happens when I get all geeked up…I overdose on exclamation marks!

Colby and I started tearing into the package, opening things and unwrapping items until we exposed our entire loot.

There was a lot of “oooh…look at this” and “this is so awesome” banter going on.  The box was stuffed full of amazing things.  Like these antique spools, which will be a perfect addition to the old office space that I’m on the verge of turning into a craft room.

The best part of the package was that Marcus took the time to add little notes to many of the items.  It helped us identify items that we had no idea what they were.  Like this, which is a strawberry picker.

My jaw dropped and I turned into a 13 year old girl drooling over Justin Bieber when I came across this old basket, which I’m assuming is an egg basket!  I’ve been looking for something like this for awhile.  It’s like Marcus had ESP or could read my mind or something equally as crazy.  And the basket arrived just in time for Easter.  I might have to Martha Stewart it up and dye some Easter eggs and fill the basket.  I can see it now…

This, what looks like a pen and ink print, is another favorite of mine.  I may have to make a last minute addition to the parlor art gallery to incorporate it.  And I didn’t forget about Art Week and the gallery project, I’ll be back probably next week to finish it all up.

I was extra cheesed up about these guys:

It’s a ceramic chick and a duck (kind of like on Friends when Joey and Chandler adopted a chick and a duck).  And please excuse the bad photo.  Colby is still trying to figure out the new camera (as am I).  I also adored the buttons and rulers.  No idea what I’m going to do with them but I’m going to figure out something.

Oh yeah, and speaking of how thankful we were for the notes, this one was extremely helpful!  In case you can’t read it, the note says “Knife rest for carving at the table”.  If it wasn’t for the note, I would totally be thinking “baby barbell”.  Baby’s workout right?!  I’m going to be a horrible mother some day!  I can see it now!

So here’s a big thank you, thank you, thank you shout out to Marcus!  We love our antiques care package very much!  We can’t wait to start incorporating the new “old” items into our home and decor!  Be sure to keep your eye out in future posts to see how we incorporated them!

Pssst…Did anyone notice the blog changes?  One of my 2012 resolutions was to trick out the blog.  I wasn’t really digging the old blog’s format and design so I pulled the trigger and switched up the theme.  The one is the WordPress Anniversary Theme.  I like the short posts so much better and I think commenting should be easier.  Hint hint…I LOVE comments!  I still have a bunch of bugs to squash and some more design work and fancification to knock out, so bear with me as we transition into our new design.  Stay tuned for more updates!

  1. Hey daughter, I love the care package you received. Looks like a lot of interesing stuff. I especially love the dress pattern design. I can see that framed and displayed on your wall gallery. Can’t wait to see the finished result.
