Harvest Mantle

And the “It’s Fall Y’all” festivities continue, this time with a fall-themed mantle.  Now, since I don’t have a fireplace and thus don’t have a mantle, I had to get a little creative and decided to decorate the top of the shelf in the kitchen.

And like yesterday with the fall themed tablescape, I had a harvest theme going on (county girls represent!) and I made sure I used what I had on hand.  Other than a splurge on mini pumpkins and gourds which were only $0.69 each.  Big spender!  Big spender!

Confession time.  My name is Angie…and I have a cloche problem.  I am OBSESSED with putting things under glass these days!  Seriously.  I may have a problem.  I’m surprised I haven’t tried to stuff the dog under there!  Kidding!  He’s too big!  I’ve been scheming about the different things I can put under the cake dome and the cloche.  The possibilities are endless!  I see lots of cloche decorating in my future.  But this time around, I went with pumpkins and gourds.

I like how the decor, being right in front of the window into the backyard, ties quite nicely into nature.  It’s like a continuation of the outside in.  Especially with the sticks in the vase.  Recognize it from yesterday’s tablescape post?!

Some of the other items on the “makeshift mantle” include a glass jar that I filled with apples, which are destined for some homemade applesauce action.  Yum!  Although I seem to keep eating them with cheese instead.  Double yum!  I blame Colby and his Vermont cheddar ways.

Colby’s deer head was also a nice addition to the mantle.  Who says a harvest theme just has to be about fruits and veggies?!  It is almost hunting season here in Maine afterall!  I’m counting down the days…I mean…SO sad there are only a few weeks left until I become a hunting widow as Colby disappears into the woods for deer and bird season.  Secret single behavior time!  You know…secret single behavior…all those things you don’t like to do when your hubby is around…like pumicing your calluses while watching Ice Burg Hunters.  Not like I do that or anything!

On that note…have I shown you the glass jar full of corn kernels?!  No?!  Well here it is:

Mmm, mmm.  Fall = homemade popcorn time.  None of that Pop Secret crap.  Do they even still make that stuff?  Do you remember when it was all funky colored like pink and green and blue?!  I do.  Did I just age myself?!

Oh…and that sign in the background says “potato bar” and it was one of the signs we made for our rehearsal dinner at our house.  It’s kind of become a permanent fixture on the window sill.

That concludes our little fall “mantle” post, I hope you enjoyed it!
